1. Use in Concrete as a Hardener, Reinforcing Agent, and Waterproofing Agent Magnesium fluorosilicate acts as a cement curing accelerator and reinforcing agent, widely used in floor treatment, anti-corrosion, and other industries. When mixed with a resin material and applied to the concrete surface, the mixture penetrates to form a dense layer, protecting and reinforcing the concrete floor. This is the most common and well-established application. Cement, mainly composed of silicates, hardens when mixed with water but has relatively low hardness and is prone to wear, resulting in a shorter service life. Concrete — a mixture of cement, sand, and stone — offers higher hardness and better durability. Adding magnesium fluorosilicate to concrete increases wear resistance and reduces dusting on the treated surface. It also reduces cracking and deformation in construction, enhances resistance to weathering and rain erosion, and improves overall strength. Magnesium fluorosilicate also strengthens the hardened surface coating of fiberboard and increases the flexural strength of cement. For example, mixing asbestos with ordinary Portland cement at a 1:6 ratio and adding 3–5% magnesium fluorosilicate increases flexural strength by 80%. When glass fibers are pre-coated with magnesium fluorosilicate, the strength of glass-fiber-reinforced cement products will not decrease significantly over a long period. The fading and efflorescence (whitening) on colored cement surfaces can be prevented by adding magnesium fluorosilicate to the coloring coating before application. 2. Use in Foam Resins Magnesium fluorosilicate effectively addresses the poor heat resistance, easy deformation, and short service life of foam resins. 3. Use in Wood Preservation Magnesium fluorosilicate slows down rapid wood decay by increasing fiber strength, thereby extending the service life of wood. 4. Use in Ceramic Manufacturing Magnesium fluorosilicate can be used as a flux and as a solvent for cleaning surface spots during ceramic production. |
